Independence Day

As we value the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of this nation, remember that our country was formally created after its declaration of independence in 1776 and a hard fought revolution. It was June 21, 1788 when the Constituion of the United States became effective following ratification by the ninth state of the then United States.

The preamble to our Constitution is clear, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

On this day when we rejoice the declaration of our independence, let us think about what it was our leaders then sought for their people, and let us not allow it to slip away from us.
